STYLE ICON: MICK JAGGER

For nearly fifty years, Mick Jagger has captivated the worlds of fashion and music. Maybe it's his attitude, or those moves, or that hair, or his voice that have us commoners transfixed with the enigma that is he? Could be those hips or those lips? Those LIPS. Oh, those lips. I mean.. As the Rolling Stones' frontman and one-half of the Glimmer Twins, Mick puts the rock in "rock and roll" and the rhythm in "rhythm and blues". Cliche, but true. On top of it all, he's managed to remain one of the most fashionable men on the planet.

I have spent hours pouring over Pinterest searches of Mick's personal style, a) enamoured with its sheer coolness and b) fascinated with how it actually came to be. Possibly his personal style came by way of osmosis?  He has had a long list of fashion icons as past loves (Marianne Faithfull, Marsha Hunt, Bianca Jagger, Jerry Hall, Anita Pallenberg to name just a few), and is very open about the fact that he and his loves frequently shopped each other's closets.

The much of Mick's personal style has withstood the test of time: t-shirts, bold colours, sharp patterns, and expert tailoring are staples throughout, yet with each decade his looks managed to both embody their moment and defy time. His early style, back when he and the Stones went from playing American blues covers in dives and clubs to touring America with number one hits, consisted of sunglasses, collared shirts, statement outerwear, turtlenecks, cable knit sweaters, canvas trainers, stripes, cigarette pants, gingham, and Cuban heels. Entering the era of Their Satanic Majesties Requests, the band's free Hyde Park concert, and their infamous Altamont show, Mick swung in Moroccan prints, furs, light dresses, thin scarves, billowing blouses, and form-fitting bell bottoms. With then wives Bianca and Jerry, he helped popularized the seventies glam. On the streets and in the clubs he wore crisp suits, luxurious fabrics, and jewel tones, while on stage he performed in glittering eye makeup, chest-exposing second-skin bodysuits, and varnished nails. The 1980s saw the introduction of bolder prints and more athletic looks, while the 90s brought us the laid back (at times still glam) Jagger style we see today.. Yes, dad sneakers included.

No matter how his style has evolved through the years, Mick's instinctual knack for clothes has never waned. His vibe is completely contagious, and Jagger's unique blend of his music, looks, style, and sex appeal will forever be drawing people in.

What's your favorite era of Mick? What looks will you never stop referencing? Or what's your go-to Rolling Stones song? I'd love to know!
